Welcome to Martial Minded.
Here we believe that knowledge is power and that understanding is the number one way to supplement your training.
We always recommend you listen and talk with your instructor about any questions you have or issues you may be having in your practice as there is no replacement for a good Instructor.
We don’t want to be your teacher we want to be your textbook.
It’s not about style, it’s about you!
We wholeheartedly believe “it’s not about style, it’s about you”. A paraphrasing of the quote from Donnie Yen’s 2008 portrayal in Ip Man. This means that one martial art is not inherently better than another but one may be better for an individual, and one martial artist can be better than another.
Any single style or art is designed to be taught to a number of students of different capabilities and body types. Each must be tailored to fit your body, your abilities. Sometimes the easiest way to do this is to look beyond your art and take parts or aspects from other styles and add these skills to your own.
I’ve had it described to me as a form of accent that each martial artist has though we are each speaking the same language. As with an accent, you are able to distinguish the country of origin but it is unique to the user.
Your instructor may have the added job of passing on an authentic version of the art he was taught but here we want you to learn the past as well as learning the best style for you.
